Lakeside Golf Club: A Scenic Round in the Haliburton Highlands

One of the things I love about living in Haliburton County is how easy it is to get outside and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. Whether it's spending time on the lake, exploring a local trail or getting out for a round of golf, there's no shortage of ways to make the most of the warmer months.

For anyone who enjoys golf, Lakeside Golf Club in West Guilford is a wonderful place to spend a few hours.

Located along Highway 118 between Carnarvon and Haliburton, this scenic nine-hole course combines a relaxed cottage-country atmosphere with a layout that offers plenty of variety.

A Little History, A Lot of Character

Lakeside Golf Club has been part of the Haliburton Highlands since the 1950s.

Over the years, the course has become a familiar destination for local golfers, seasonal residents and visitors looking to enjoy a round surrounded by nature.

With mature evergreens, rolling hills and views of nearby Green Lake, the setting is certainly part of its appeal.

The nine-hole, par-36 course measures 3,235 yards from the blue tees and features three sets of tee blocks, offering different playing options depending on your experience and preferences.

Although it's a nine-hole course, golfers can choose to play either nine or 18 holes, making it a convenient option whether you have a couple of hours to spare or want to make an afternoon of it.

A Course That Keeps Things Interesting

Don't let the nine-hole layout fool you. Lakeside offers some interesting challenges along the way.

One of its standout features is a 589-yard par-five hole with a large pond positioned in front of the green. It's the kind of hole that encourages you to think carefully about your next shot, particularly when deciding whether to play it safe or take a chance.

The combination of changing terrain, mature trees and water features gives the course plenty of character.

For experienced golfers, there's an opportunity to put your skills to the test. For those who simply enjoy getting outside for a casual round, the beautiful surroundings make the experience just as enjoyable.

Stay a Little Longer at The 10th Hole

A round of golf doesn't have to be the end of your visit.

Lakeside is also home to The 10th Hole Restaurant, a casual spot where you can sit down for a meal or relax with a drink while overlooking Grass Lake.

The menu includes familiar favourites such as burgers, wings and fish and chips, making it an inviting place to unwind after your round.

And you don't need to be a golfer to stop in. The restaurant welcomes visitors who simply want to enjoy a meal and the lakeside setting.

It's a nice reminder that some of the best places in our communities are worth visiting for more than one reason.

Golfing for a Good Cause

There's also a small community-minded tradition at Lakeside that's worth mentioning.

On the second hole, golfers will find a donation box at the toll bridge. Contributions collected there are matched by the golf club and directed toward local charities.

It's a simple initiative, but one that reflects the importance of supporting the communities we live and spend time in.
