There's always something exciting about seeing a new local business open its doors, especially when it's created by people who already have strong ties to the community.
Located along Highway 35 in Minden, Toast Food Company is a welcoming breakfast and lunch restaurant bringing fresh flavours, familiar favourites and a comfortable place to gather to the Haliburton Highlands.
Whether you're meeting friends for breakfast, enjoying a leisurely weekend brunch or stopping for a bite while exploring the area, Toast is a lovely addition to Minden's local dining scene.
Meet the People Behind Toast
Toast opened in December 2025, but owners Tara and Andrew Schroeder were already familiar faces in the local food scene.
The couple also operates the Mason Jar, a popular food truck in nearby Carnarvon. After seeing the community's response to their food truck, they began exploring the possibility of opening a permanent restaurant where they could welcome guests throughout the year.
When the former Lounge Café location became available in Minden, they saw an opportunity to bring that vision to life.
Andrew brings his passion for cooking to the kitchen, while Tara focuses on the front-of-house experience and day-to-day operations. Together, they've created a space that feels bright, comfortable and welcoming, with an emphasis on good food and genuine hospitality.
A Fresh Take on Breakfast and Lunch
Toast's menu offers a thoughtful mix of traditional breakfast favourites and creative dishes, making it a great option whether you're in the mood for something familiar or want to try something different.
For those who love a classic breakfast, there are hearty combinations of eggs, bacon, sausage and home fries, along with several varieties of eggs Benedict.
If you're craving something sweet, the cinnamon roll pancakes are worth a look. Featuring a cinnamon swirl, cream cheese frosting, caramel and candied pecans, they're a creative twist on a breakfast favourite.
The menu also includes lunch options, specialty dishes and lighter choices, along with coffee and other beverages to enjoy with your meal.
It's the kind of menu that offers something for different tastes, whether you're stopping in for a quick breakfast or settling in for a relaxed meal with family or friends.
A Place to Gather in Minden
Beyond the food, one of the things that stands out about Toast is the intention behind the restaurant.
When Tara and Andrew opened the business, they wanted to create somewhere people could feel comfortable gathering, whether that meant catching up with a neighbour, spending time with family or simply enjoying a meal in a welcoming environment.
That sense of connection is an important part of life in smaller communities like Minden.
Local restaurants aren't just places to eat. They're where friends meet, families celebrate and familiar faces become part of the everyday experience.
It's wonderful to see local entrepreneurs investing in our community and creating new places for residents and visitors to enjoy.
